I started taking piano lessons 2 1/2 years ago, & I admit I'm terrible. Today, after a month of practice, I was able to play Berlin's Alexander's Ragtime Band. I've played more difficult pieces before but today was the first time I felt I played music, not just played piano.

I might be the worst piano player ever, but I'm giving myself a medal!

As a musician, I say play for yourself. Please yourself first. As Duke Ellington said, if it sounds good, it is good.

Congrats. Piano is not an easy instrument to learn. My favorite to play is “Maple Leaf Rag”, by Scott Joplin. Go to You Tube and listen to the version I can play. It’s pretty long though.

Keep playing - since I was 8 I've always played one musical instrument or another & I can't imagine my life without them. Proust said you will sometimes gain more insight into a piece of music played poorly. You've made much progress, grasshopper.

Great stuff! I only began piano lessons in my mid-teens & had to stop when I went away to teachers' college. I ended up getting jobs in schools because I could play the piano (& eventually the organ) and I loved every moment of it. 🍾

Congratulations. Playing piano is a mysterious journey. You will always make progress as long as you keep going. And then seemingly, out of nowhere....a miracle.
Enjoy.
