Mae West's 'Double Decker' shoes
*
Mae West was a small woman. On screen, she looked larger because she wore shoes that made her taller. A feat of foot engineering, each shoe has two layers: white platform shoes with ankle straps bolted on top of a pair of wooden silver pumps.

West looks as though her foot size is 4 or 5—tiny. The extension of the platform enhances the size to fit her *new* height. I saw a fashion show of the original clothes designed by Adrian, for movies in the 1920s, 30s,40, and 50s. The models were tiny—the clothes, exquisite.

Tip of the hat to these. Under an evening gown. Maybe comfortable though.
