To be fair, most of those places are islands

Being an island/continent is neither necessary nor sufficient, however. A scientifically-literate population, governments prepared to take tough measures, economic support during shutdowns & a national health system have all helped us here in Australia to avoid major outbreaks.

The US could have easily closed the northern and southern borders and effectively been an island.

And plenty of islands did terribly... really NZ /Australia had an advantage as cases came later than Europe and US and they acted much faster and took seriously super early. And, of course, border closures can make most counties virtually an island.

And, at least in NZ, communications were masterful, which helped greatly (and has not thing to do with geography, juts competence) I was in other successful countries so maybe Australia did too! (I was in Nz March through aug and then in Us)

but we still have returning travelers from overseas. we just have systems in place to mitigate spread - incl contact tracking, quarantine, local lockdowns among others. both of our major cities managed to get cases to 0 after they had outbreaks - and they’re not islands...

Within our "Island" our 7 states/territories, closed all the boarders unless for emergency or care/work. There are areas that have had not one single case owing to this. Did any of your states close their lines to contain the spread???? Come up with a better excuse than island
