    Very short mini-thread now that it is graduate school application time. Your application should indicate which faculty you'd like to work with, and why. Rather than just picking faculty that match your interests, look at their publications. Are they active in the field?

    Grad students: you are allowed to unplug for a long weekend. You are allowed to prioritize family. You are allowed to go a day (or two, or three!) without checking email or thinking about writing. Take time to rest when you need it. Spend time with those you love.

    This is a great idea, especially for people who experience anxiety and get overwhelmed by too many social interactions. This happens to me sometimes when I’m attending a conference.

    The Microsoft Ignite conference has pins indicating how social you want to be. They’ve already run out of “only talk to me if you know me” and “don’t talk to me ever” and that’s hilarious.
