Why not refer to every 90-day period after sign-up as a "trial", and only count it as ARR-style revenue if he customer sticks around for more than 3 months, and then churns later? You can even make this more formal in your biz by moving customers into annual plans after trial.

Could work!

I've always just called it 90 (or depending on the product, 60 day) churn. Not very creative, though it never occurred to me to give it a name :) It's interesting that all of the subscription analytics tool just lump all that churn together.

Right? I wish more broke it out a bit.

I think some folks don’t even count that as churn since they really didn’t become a customer in the first place.
-
Right. So what's a funny name for it?

We used to call it "returns" -- just like in retail.

Paid failure to activate; usually means they paid thinking they’d get around to finally activating and using the product then cancel after the 2nd or 3rd charge because they realize they’re not using it. Almost like they paid to extend their trial.
