while we’re here, Slack is like IRC except you can’t talk to people who use screen readers or have less than 8 GB of RAM to spare

you, a rube: services with user avatars are better than IRC because seeing people’s faces makes it feel more personal me, an intellectual: having actual people you’re talking to rather than shouting into the void makes it much easier to think about the effects of your speech

Bitlbee is nice because DMs work super well through it and I can still see them when I’m not looking at Twitter much.

Still on twitter break. Occasionally looking at the TL through bitlbee though. It strikes me that twitter is just like one big IRC channel where nobody pays attention to what anybody else is saying.

Google has Project Maven. Amazon has Rekognition. Microsoft has this ICE contract. Salesforce is modernizing CBP. Palantir is...Palantir. The entire tech industry is complicit, and fighting it requires us to organize throughout the industry, across roles, companies, and borders.

I was not going to get involved because so many people have jumped on the band wagon. But it pisses me off. Warning: Rant coming on!

Abolish ICE. Absolutely. But while we’re at it let’s abolish the borders that give ICE and the like an excuse to operate and exist.
