Every Senior Engineer or above should also be able to provide a mentee as a reference. It's one thing if you did your job for your boss, it's another thing to help create a better engineer. Thoughts?

Unpopular Opinion: "I think writing readable code is more important than clever code" Seriously? Who doesn't think that? Get in the sea.

Unpopular opinions on twitter are at best contentious, usually just dog-whistles to your own followers.

Software that gets used gets changed. When you tell developers "Don't worry about maintainability", you're effectively saying "This software isn't going to be used"

Here's my periodic rant about why not to use Jira 🙂: Stories are not tickets. Jira is designed to track bugs. We are developing software, not tracking bugs. Jira encourages the organization to dysfunctionally look at them as such. 1/7

By breaking up a story into various non, usually technical stories you add so much overhead, usually in the form of tedious estimation sessions. That estimation session is probably worth 1 or 2 magical beans. And to me it implies micro-management, not pragmatism

Yes the principal of keeping user stories small is a good one. You get in trouble though when you bend over backwards, breaking up real user-facing things into numerous non stories for accounting reasons. Some stories are just big, it's fine.
