I think that a lot of social interaction is designed to avoid interaction of real energy between the two people. You both tacitly agree that you don't want to engage in a fundamental way and so follow the (reliable) rules that do that. But real interaction is where the money is.

1. Therapy type conversations suck for anyone, even in the most familiar context 2. It's more about the person than the context/setup. 3. Agreed that superficial conversations are an important skill to learn (which is what this post is actually about)
