All my mom remembers was being in college with kids, graduating, and moving. She seriously doesn’t remember the four years of extreme poverty we lived in. It’s like it never happened to her. I threw out specific details and she remembers none of it

I literally used to lie at school and tell them my mom was furthering her education so they would just assume that she already had an established career and was working on a masters or PhD

It's a documented phenomenon. I've read that brain structure looks different at increasingly higher levels of income in a psych journal once but I've since lost the citation.

I think it more of they blocking out that part of their life..kinda like some ppl I know growing up they didn't have much food and now they keep the fridge full of food and they will say I've always kept a freezer full of food

Maybe. I remember it so vividly cause I was ashamed of how poor we were. I just told everyone my mom was in school and they assumed she was getting a masters or something and was already in her career. Not that she was a poor college student with kids
