my first ⁦ piece⁩! “Imagine what it would be like to funnel resources to address housing + poverty that disproportionately affect POCs instead of into massive law enforcement responses to incidents of violence after the fact?”

What do Trump's SOTU and Natalie Imbruglia have in common? . . . . They're torn.

Hi Rabia - community-based groups wrote reports on Islamophobia long before the one from CAP came out. It's important not to erase the work of groups that have been documenting hate violence, profiling, surveillance, and more for decades before.

"The bottom line is that he says they were arguing and then she suddenly produced a gun and shot herself...I’ve either got a suicide or a murder...It could be either way.” Of course, he's the only one available to give a statement now.

Reminds me of one of our community agreements I emphasize most in POC Muslim spaces: "use I, not we" when speaking. People keep saying things as if it's a default/given when it's really their specific experience tied to their ethnicity, class, social circle, etc.

Love you, R, but you’re wrong. 1. We‘re complex voters who care abt many issues incl. climate change, white supremacy, economic equity, etc. 2. Your “us”/“we” excludes Black Muslims who did no such thing for GW 3. Another mosque caucus went for Biden 🤷🏽‍♀️

a thread that (I hope) answers the question “how are J.Lo and Shakira profiting from cultures they are not a part of” which has come up multiple times. TL;DR, like US culture, Latinx culture is not a monolith.

So if I’m understanding caucus procedure correctly (I’m not) it’s basically being trapped in a room doing an icebreaker from a corporate retreat all day.

It's a sign of how crazy the news cycle is right now that the United States three days ago barred immigration from the largest economy in Africa--a quarter of the continent's population is now barred from the US--and almost nobody is talking about it.

A new poll found that about two-thirds of Democrats and two-thirds of all voters under age 45 fully support decriminalizing sex work. And among all voters, 52 percent say they “somewhat” or “strongly” back decriminalization efforts.

There's this notion that police are killing people because "they dont know the community." When has knowledge, familiarity, or relationships ever stop institutions from being violent? The church? Slavery? Prisons? School cops?

"I heard this saying that ‘you just don’t throw people away.’ I love that statement. Not just for me, but for the understanding of people can be rehabilitated." I believe that Ray Rice has changed. I believe that people who use violence can change.
