Some more hotel room coding. The tentacle thing can only move by inflating or deflating its outer circle "muscles" which dictate the overall form. Then it uses a very unintelligent greedy method to reach the little green targets.pic.twitter.com/qTzQJt8YJW

Trying to move the tentacle plotter along a straight line turns out to be not so easy.pic.twitter.com/NLbsNxMtg4

Just adding more intermediate steps does not really solve it. I wonder if by using different interpolation curves for every controller circle (instead of a linear blend between all start and end radii) it can be constrained to a line.pic.twitter.com/H28oT9ZEWc

are you a
@openframeworks kinda guy ? -
No, unfortunately C++ is detrimental to my creative process. I am mostly using Python.

Looks cool! You're scaling them using the midpoint from each center of those circles right? Thought about it having to do something with calculating curvature at first, but that would be far more complicated
-
Thanks! This uses a circle packing algorithm in which I define which circles should be connected and what the desired radii of the outer circles should be. The form and its animation emerges from that.

Is it just me or there are some penises involved in this art piece?

Could we rent a train car and have a creative coding jam while traveling through Europe or something like that? :D
