You don't write tests to make sure you wrote the code right, you write tests so that alarms goes off when some idiot comes along and breaks it

You write tests to make sure you designed right, which is a thing apart from code.

I don't . I write tests so I have a canary that screams to me if something gets broken in the future. I find much more value there than in the concept of validating a design via tests. YMMV.
