Have you ever noticed that in a lot of TV shows characters waive the right to a lawyer because the lawyer would be an extra character and complicate things?

This infuriates me constantly. Every character on TV seems to think it's a good idea to let themselves be interrogated without a lawyer, presumably because they are there to move the plot along rather than act in their own self-interest.
