For me, your whole shtick is hard sci-fi, immense trust in the reader, and awesome lines. I wouldn't be surprised if you said that all your stories start as one or three extremely cool sentences, then you make up the rest to put 'em on a gleaming pedestal.

It turns out they had pretty good energy capture. Photons nearly equivalent to a supernova at 70Gm out are racing towards us. They're about about 2mm away now and our FTL can't spool us in fast enough. We're at a gamma factor of 46 000 and climbing. That gives us 20 min to talk.
