It got a bad rap for being difficult but it is genuinely arcane and obtuse or is it tractable for an experienced puzzle-completer

I'm a middling puzzle-solver at best, and I finished it in middle school-ish. So, yes. But IIRC I brute-forced the Selenitic Age.

Myst is playable and completable, as was the updated realmyst. I can lend it to you. Riven is an impossible nightmare solvable only by having the same physical brain as the creator. Beyond that it gets patchy - trying to add a sense of urgency to a puzzle game doesn't work well.

Super playable, you’ll be fine. Sole problem is offensive audio quality of a couple of videos you need to be able to hear and can’t (iirc) play twice.
