I don't know anything about The Broken Earth. Let me guess, magic turns out to be a kind of verbal programming language?

The parallels aren't quite that strong, I suppose. I like how magic (or orogeny) is explained more or less by or as scientific phenomena, and that it is explained at all. Though I'm still optimistically hoping for a still deeper explanation by the end of The Stone Sky.
