We say "eighteen aughts" to refer to 1800-1809 and "eighteen hundreds" to refer to 1800-1899. Don't worry, this has already been resolved.

That rule works, but feels weird for decades where the century digit is zero: "One thousand oh ex" "Twenty oh ex"
