My theory is that Roman numerals are like place-value notation except using different symbols in different places.
E.g. the Roman symbol for digit "4" is "IV" in the units place, but "XL" in the tens place.

Also, their symbol for "0" is "" in each place.

So my "binary Roman numerals" is constrained to use only one of two symbols in each place: "" for "0", "I"/"X"/"C"/"M" for "1"
