Although there are six safe haven spots for the dwarf, the dwarf MUST move, and cannot reach another safe haven spot in a single move.
Of course, the trolls must move too. You need to build this formation just as the dwarf is in one of the safe haven spots...

If the dwarf is in a safe spot, moving a troll opens up more safe spots. Easy: just make sure the new spots are not reachable for the dwarf

Actually, I'm wrong. You can just move the troll on the far left one space right as a stalling tactic. Voilà, the dwarf is caught.
