FWIW, 1) Promises are just a monad if you've done those tutorials 2) the language feature you want is async/await, Babel supports it
Would explaining async/await first make promises easier to understand in that context?

maybe not, looks like the way async/await actually works in JS is complicated, so you can't just say "it's sugar for promises! TADA!"
