There is no way that Nintendo's business plan looks anything like what is currently happening. How could it?
"We'll deny people what they want for years" - obvious insanity "We'll double our money overnight!" - obvious insanity

I saw an interview a few days ago that said it was Niantic that pitched it. Not sure how much difference that makes.
