Today's second Tweet-based film review is The Hunger Games, which I rather enjoyed

I enjoy very much that in The Hunger Games, the story and the characters IN the story have nearly identical needs, and for the SAME REASONS

"We need to manufacture a story that's watchable, meaningful and emotionally rewarding!" - the writers and the characters, simultaneously

"If we engineer a romance right now there is a slim chance we can BOTH get out of this alive" - Peeta, seven steps ahead of the game

At the end Katniss catches on and practically explains to camera that nobody will find the ending satisfactory if they both die

And then they're stuck in this bizarre, 50% honest, 50% "we need to keep this appearance up indefinitely to survive" relationship

And obviously everybody involved in the film knew exactly how to make it, because manufacturing reality is what they all do all day already

Also liked the bit where Katniss being kind to a dying girl pretty much directly saved her (Katniss') life
