i just reread @qntm's excellent antimemetics division series and i have some notes.
3125' ideatic nature is deeply inconsistent. It is frequently described by characters as a totally alien mindset for which humanity has no resistence. But it doesn't sound alien to me.
Fascism.

idk how much of this qntm intended, but early in the series the Unforgettables discuss plans to eradicate the idea of Nazism antimemetically. in the epilogue, the phrase "never forget" occurs - leaden with meaning. 3125-World's engines evoke extermination camps.

The effects of 3125 include a process by which homo sapiens lose the ability to recognize or be recognized as human. "Red", as described, resembles a radicalized social media neonazi. The Foundation, the ultimate end-of-history neoliberal institution, is nigh-helpless to stop it.

This clashes, sadly, with Marion as a character and the ending. In qntm's story, the only way to defeat cosmic fascism is to... reify a single, ultimate hero into a flawless savior who suicide-bombs the evil away? That's closer to Eco's cult-of-the-hero than antifascist action.

It's past midnight and I'm phoneposting so I'll wrap it up:
@qntm you're brilliant and i loved following the story over the past several years. I'd be delighted to hear back. I do not think you are a fascist.1 reply 1 retweet 1 likeShow this thread
