If you shoot a door lock in Star Wars it opens it, locks it, prevents it from ever being opened or locked again, or won’t hold them for long. Whatever you want; they don’t give a shit.

In the Old Republic they lost maps to planets. Under the Empire no-one ever had a problem knowing where planets are. In the New Republic they started losing planets again. Say what you like about the Empire, they at least kept track of all the planets.
for sure the Empire had that problem "Our position's correct, except, no Alderaan"
