When I inherit code, I schedule time to investigate it. You always inherit bugs, tickets, incomplete work, unknown unknowns. If nothing else, people ease off when they know something isn't going to be their responsibility anymore
I am proud to say that I don't do that -- I care about this and when I know I'm leaving a project I make sure to do as good of a handoff as possible, including creating whatever documentation is necessary. It... has occurred that I didn't know when I would be leaving a project.
Which just goes to show: The next guy might be picking up sooner than you think. Don't let this stuff rot.
