It's kind of mind-boggling how bad the free software community is at naming things
They're finally trying to rename GIMP to something less stupid and somehow the suggested replacements are only barely less bad: * GNU Imp (GNU Image Manipulation Program, restyled) * GNU PIE (GNU Photo and Image Editor) * Glimpse * Clickfix * Wilber
"GNU Imp" is an insane suggestion because imagine doing all of that rebranding work and it still abbreviates to "GImp". "GNU PIE" is also insane because (1) what does pie have to do with anything and (2) it, concerningly, implies the existence of photos which are NOT images
"Glimpse" is a legit good suggestion and by far the best pick on this list. "Clickfix" is just mystifying. Those are your primary associations with image manipulation? Clicking on things and fixing things? It sounds like a budget screwdriver manufacturer
I'm in favour of calling it Gimp Is Not Photoshop or GINP for short.

Sadly the free software community is no better at designing user interfaces. My guess is it's often made by people who understand how code works better than they understand how people think.
