Survey of prior art: are you familiar with any fantasy stories set in the present day in which magic is both new and public? I can think of only one example, @qntm's Ra, but there must be others, right? Help me out.

Yeah, Unsong is in the neighborhood. Magic in my story is <3 years old; I'm kind of surprised that the closest anyone has done to that that I can find is still on the order of decades. Just on the general expectation that everything's been done before.
This is because the premise raises a significant question: why is this only being discovered *now*?
