So anyway my point is that much of the value provided by GitHub is totally unrelated to Git itself, and the choice of underlying version control software is kind of academic

It's okay to admit that there's more to a programming job than just writing and hosting the code. That those centralised workflow tools are crucial. That without them the job cannot be done
