I'm confused, the laser didn't fire?

There's a section in the story where Red sends the shadow (which is presumably some portion of 3125?) after those beings which are aware of him: the Twitch staff, the Task Force, the guy with the laser strike keystick. Apparently it got them in time.

It's good. Better than the sandbox version I read and loved. It's corny, but I feel lucky to be alive as you flesh out this frontier that will inevitably be so well received that coming generations won't even be able to appreciate it (e.g the matrix)
