Relatedly, did you know a) Roman and Medieval days had 12 hours between sunset and sunrise and 12 hours between sunrise and sunset regardless of the time of year? (Hence needing to specify when you mean hours 'of the clock" rather than the day or night) and

b) in the Royal Navy, days traditionally began and ended at midday not midnight.
