your "good old days" were once "terrible new days" when people like you mourned for better times just like you do this has been true ever since Adam and Eve looked back on the good old days when there was no need to work for food and childbirth was painless

In the late ‘70s there were people who heard the Ramones for the first time when they were brand new and thought “Wow, music sucks compared to when *I* was a kid.” Like I’m all for negativity but COME ON ya know.

The Beatles are probably a much better example of this but I’m sticking with the Ramones.

          It's egregious with music.

With other stuff the basic argument is more like “things used to be harder and worse and it bugs me that now it’s easier for people who are younger than me.”

I think it’s fairly objective that music was really terrible after the late 60s and before the late 70s (and often depressing) and improved with new wave groups like the Cars, Blondie, the Ramones, Police. (Though crap continued to be produced into the 80s for the top 40 market.)

While I agreed with South Park that some early Skrillex was ridiculous, I think he’s matured. But overall I think EDM and other contemporary styles have made real contributions. And I get frustrated with anyone over 40 who’s musical tastes froze in the 80s.
