Why would anyone call it any different? It's four symbols - it's not an X and O, it's Cross and Circle - what are you calling Triangle and Square if you say X and O?

Too late. Saying X is far shorter and better than saying Cross. Not having that. X is an X is an X is an X. Had they done it since PSOne, may be I'd say cross (which now seems pretty weird).

It was always a "cross" button, since PS1, along with the other basic shapes. The thing is, in English, we use the letter X so we say "ecks". The rest of the world doesn't always use English, though. Circle button, for instance, can be said as the "oh" button.
