Well you have to take into account religion. Parents were to be respected but they weren't the all-knowing figure, and that figure ordered us to keep them on a pedestal no matter how flawed they were.

oh right! that’s my a part of my issue though! i was reading the bible at age 8/9 ON PURPOSE cause i liked reading and it was dry, too vague yet too specific to be coherent, and made me have even LESS faith in adults
