“you dont like this artist bc theyre famous now” is much more of a stretch (and an insult) than the reality that artists change overtime and a lot of people just don’t like the directions artists go in (as much) when said artists’ audience grows
if my favorite indie rock band goes mainstream pop i don’t have to be bitter or and reactionary to conclude that the music doesn’t resonate with me the same. besides, most people’s music doesn’t become bad ,really, it just gets soulless and less unique. why should I like that?
