(*i still use “racist” to describe the marginalization or oppression of several nonwhite populations or a nonwhite population that doesn’t have a specific word like “anti-blackness” or “sinophobia” already in existence. i always use “misogyny” or “patriarchy” instead of “sexism”)
colorism needs to be a different word that has the identity of the people it marginalizes in it. much like “racism” and “sexism”, it does little to say who’s disadvantaged by the -ism and makes it easy for bad faith actors to turn it any which way.

i didn’t know this sent but ya i was wondering why “colorism “ pissed me off and i‘ve flashbacks of lightskin women presenting the definition as “discrimination based on skin color” for SCHOOL PROJECTS AT A PWI. i constabtly brainstorm how to be more responsible w/ our language
