most representation for marginalized groups is only good at gratifying us because the profit is in making us feel good, not in doing the work of creating dynamic, humanizing characterization for marginalized groups

too much representation rhetoric is dated and uncritical. we’re past visibility and awareness. “it helps people realize they can be ___!” is presumptuous at best and so little inclusion in the past has facilitated an easily pleased, consumer base among marginalized people
