the way so many cisgender heterosexual mix up gender and sexuality really speaks to how tied they are conceptually but it breeds ignorance

i came out as trans to my bio mom saying "i'm not a woman" and she was like "idc who you like" like??? no??? that's not what i said at all??

this is why "gender and sexuality are separate" is bullshit when being straightness is written into being a proper woman/man + if you come out as a trans, cishet people talk about being gay (see; The Wade's daughter coming out as trans and people saying she's too young to be gay)
