That being said, you should all play Cthulhu Saves The World. It's a JRPG with decent comedy writing and is what I would consider a good departure from traditional horror, drawing nicely on the source material.pic.twitter.com/cSB4HEZiUn

To be fair, maybe they've doubled down on the racism to compensate.
Each character starts with a more racist Lovecraftian familiar. A cat called "Double N-word".
One has to wonder what removing threats to mental stability in a setting like this is gonna gain them. How big of a demographic is the “I didn’t see ‘In the Mouth of Madness’ b/c the lead’s mental breakdown wasn’t sufficiently PC”?
Miniscule. Like 3 people.
Tbh the idea of corruption is in-theme, since it's pretty clear to me at least, in many of lovecraft's works, that an insane existence is in our future as well, even in the best of cases. But I doubt that it has been done well.
It's more the absence of sanity mechanics than presence of corruption. The threat of madness is often a more scary part of many of his stories than the actual monsters.
Sad thing is, Lovecraft's mythos isn't even all that mainstream. Sure, Color From Space is a recent movie. But it's still a niche genre, it's not a hot button subject in pop culture. Then they decide to disrespect what cosmic horror is, and will flounder for it. Play Call.
They want the label, the content has no value to them.
