Burial's records registered the dejection that capitalist realism produced, whilst also recalling the collective ecstasies that it eroded. Ghost Box offers a re-dreaming of postwar public space, not as a nostalgic throwback, but as a call to rediscover all kinds of lost futures.

if California hadn’t signed to liberalize abortion (ironically by governor reagan), i would’ve been forced to live inside the lowest point of my life - financially and emotionally - without hope to advance or move on.

i got pregnant a couple weeks after my last relationship fell apart, at age 25. i’d stopped taking the pill because, what was the point — I could barely maintain my existence, much less meet someone and have sex (turns out, there is ABSOLUTELY a Point)

Before we begin, let me tell you a couple of things. First, a few years ago I started an agency called Ueno (ueno.co). Second, I’m in a wheelchair. That’s it, those are the two things you need to know before you read on. 1/?

will 2019 be the year ~progressive tech companies~ stop forcing vulnerable employees to waive their civil-rights-era protections against harassment and discrimination, without even informed consent?

all to say, forcing workers to waive their civil rights as a conditional to getting a job is evil as heck. arbitration removes the incentive for companies to follow anti-discrimination laws like Title VII, esp post-Gorsuch. it's stunning more companies haven't followed Microsoft

individual workers win in ~12% of arbitrations, compared to 57% of cases in state court. as such workers are estimated 50 times likelier to sue than to arbitrate

in 2018 a Gorsuch court upheld legality of depriving workers the right to sue and forcing victims into private arbitration. Jerry Brown vetoed the bill that would’ve ended forced arbitration for sexual harassment claims in California

I think about my great grandfather, how even after helping to build the railroads he was sent back to China because of Exclusion, how nearly 100 years later, my mother did not need to return to China bc the promise of belonging for me via #BirthrightCitizenship was the stake.

Having mixed feelings about how quickly Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Gab hide these murderers’ profiles. Is it to protect the public from their abhorrent ideas? To protect the company from bad optics / culpability? My gut feel is it’s the latter, but post-MURDER is too late.
