what motive does anyone have to lie about that?

Elicitation of sympathy, justification of righteous indignation, disarming of privilege-based critiques. Possibly others forms of manipulation.

It seems really unlikely that there are not actually large numbers of lonely people experiencing genuine suffering over their love life or lack thereof. I have spent significant parts of my life in that state myself.

It isn't exactly difficult to see how that experience, with less commitment to respect the autonomy of others, a more externalizing coping style and more willingness to let resentment and bitterness fester could take one in pretty twisted directions

Do not forget that the contemporary incel subculture was actually created by a queer woman and was much, much less dark when I first became aware of it ca. 2000. It twisted itself over time, gradually.

I wasn't aware of that history. Yes, real deprivation could lead down a twisted path, absolutely.

I also agree that rejection of incel ideology should not be accompanied by scorn for the deprived. I retweeted this thread:https://twitter.com/thelastinstance/status/989531893392699394?s=19 …

kairotic evil @thelastinstance"Incel" names a stance taken with respect to a predicament. It's interesting how often repudiation of the stance (which *is* entirely distorted and malevolent) shades into disparagement of the predicament: "if you were a better person, you wouldn't be in that situation".Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

But the demand for sex as reparations fits in so well with sociopathic use of pity for manipulation, as well as fascistic fake persecution narratives (like Dolchstoßlegende), that it likely now elicits bandwagoning from some who are NOT genuinely deprived.

This is an example of just how well the demand for sex as reparations can fit in with toxic, even genocidal, politics:https://twitter.com/nberlat/status/990595828409683972?s=19 …

I suppose they really will be incel if it gets down to dis-membering people.

"We killed everyone else and violated their remains, but now those have rotted away. Shit, we're all incel for good unless we start doing each other. Uh, how about it, AlphaGod1488?" "No way man - all possible sex is gay now."
