Piles of broken sleds, smoldering fires left unattended, overflowing bathrooms. This is what I saw today at @USFSLassen's Eskimo Pass snow play area. Booze everywhere in spite of the many neon "alcohol prohibited" signs. Shameful disregard for our #publiclands. #ShutdownStories

Update 10 Jan 2018: Soiled diapers, human waste, food scraps, alcohol bottles, more broken sleds and wildlife scat composed of styrofoam pieces. And this is just next to the closed bathroom facilities. I took what I could but had to leave so much more. #ShutdownStories

I wish I could say that I’m shocked, or even surprised. But unfortunately my experience confirms that most Americans do not have a land ethic, or frankly a basic feeling of any personal responsibility. It is of course made worse when they know they will not be held accountable.🤬

We were able to take the giant pile of broken sleds, but not the trash near the bathrooms. My dad raised me to always leave our public lands better than we found them. I have seen lots of random dumping in my day, but to see hundreds of people, with kids, behave like this was 😭.
