New followers: you may want to check out the weird game we're making, Caves of Qud It's a far-future, sci-fantasy RPG that's heavy on language, simulation, & sentient plants. The tagline is "Chisel through a layer cake of thousand-year-old civilizations."

A thing that's very funny to me is how narrative and systems are cast in opposition to each other, largely because the rich social systems that drive narrative are too complex for game engines and have to run as human firmware instead

To expound on this, the apple farmer's daughter is asking me to cook a meal at the mud oven named after a legendary dragonfly, Melactorus Teltola, who settled in the village some time ago. Specifically, the oven is named after her "love"

In half an hour, we'll have the dev team of new indie tactical RPG (developed here in the UCSC Games & Playable Media program) on the show to talk about their game! As always, drop in at 4:30 PM PDT:

there are many good blaseball explainers of various sizes — Sam's thread here very tersely summarizes some of the exciting TTRPG-esque canonizations of player actions that have gone down.

my utopias are about doing the work in the face of disaster; I'm going to share a pairing of short story and an essay, both by by , which I think speak to each other:

I'd love if folks responded with other insightful perspectives on utopia. Art, writing, games, anything. I'll be offline most of the day but checking in periodically.

Every time the NFT discourse rears its head, I think of Le Guin and this essay.
