The is one of the best uses of preprints I've seen. In addition to the substantive contribution to our understanding of the current state of knowledge on Coronavirus, it highlights the good that can come from making research open so that it can be synthesized for public benefit.

If you are a scientist, do you feel you have enough time in your job to learn new skills you think would improve the way you do science? If a magic wand could free up time to learn new skills that improve the science you are doing, how much time would you like to have?

Can the scientific literature simultaneously be an enduring record and a source of news? Can it also be trusted to get claims? These are incredibly modern questions, yet have their roots in conflicts that date back 150 years

Fights and debates over how to make science “open” have a long history, but the meaning of “open” has varied. Only in the late nineteenth century did “open” apply to professional scientists

How politicians talk to the masses has changed over time, becoming more nationalistic and communal (rather than appealing to hierarchy and duty). Neat new work by and Shige Oishi, now in press at PSPB
