In 2018, the average deductible was $4,328 for an individual and $8,352 for families, approximately. Calling that vastly better / not even close vs 12k in UBI seems like questionable math. Not trolling you, or objecting to the intent of your point, merely for background color.

The average American, all told, spends approximately $10,000 a year on healthcare (including premiums, deductibles, copays, medical debts, and out of network billing). To pay off the average student loan bill in 10 yrs at 4.5% requires $4,500 a per year. That alone is $14,500.

UBI seems like it would be much better after other things like strict rent control have been put in place (which afaik isn't part of the Yang platform)

Completely agree

UBI is a libertarian flat tax inverted into bullshit I expect more radical than this
-
Interesting - how so? I thought if implemented properly (i.e. enough money) it could help curb into the fallout of automation. I guess increasing funding to already existing social programs could do that too.

I don't like his implementation but I like UBI on principle. I think without unabashedly progressive policy elsewhere it becomes a Band-Aid over a festering wound.

Yang's version is really butchered. Like you I'm glad he brought it to the conversation but jesus christ I would hope his plans never get passed.

I disagree with UBI. It is a placebo. If implemented it would soon be subject to all sorts of further regulation. It is a let them eat cake strategy.
