Also not sure how to run it without the original PSU (I don’t really trust it). Modern ATX supplies don’t have -5V and a bench supply wouldn’t provide enough current (10A on 5V, 5A on 12V)

One part of me wants to make repairing stuff like this myself a thing, the other part of me is 100% terrified of exposed CRTs

On the other hand it could not work and I end up with $1000 of test eqiupment for no reason

I’m tempted to just buy myself an oscilloscope and/or logic analyser and a decent bench supply and try to repair the Compaq Portable. I imagine one could run the system board and cards separately from the rest..?

Otherwise, if anyone knows about a troubleshooting guide for these, it just does this. If you look carefully, there is a blinking cursor in the top left corner though!

Should I try calling Compaq and ask for a replacement system board for my Compaq Portable or

My least favourite thing is when service manuals tell you “replace the entire system board” for the problem you’re having. Thanks, but that doesn’t help me when it’s 35 years old

Seriously though, this is an *excellent* controller and I wish I could play Wipeout HD with one. Could I...use a Teensy or something with a controller port on one end and USB on the other to emulator a DualShock 3..?

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I have yet to find a kart racer that feels nicer to play than Crash Team Racing. The drifting in it is pretty much perfect imo (or maybe I’m just used to it)

After messing around with OSSC settings I managed to get stable output from my PAL PlayStation (the lines wobble a bit on default settings)

I can’t say I’ve ever seen an iOS app that uses SOAP, but here we are. Time to go implement something that works with the UPnP spec I guess...

(fyi, it is incredibly easy to hook up wireshark to your iOS device for network debugging)

Upon taking a look at the offical iOS app, it uses some weird looking XML API. And some HTTP method called "SUBSCRIBE". I imagine the JSON one is legacy..? Anyhow, this makes things somewhat more difficult.
