How about having questions based on other non-name properties of the countries, like "the country whose capital is Lima"? Of course, not all of the "countries" in the current version are actually countries, though I'm not sure that matters!

And yes - it's surprisingly complex to determine what's a country. Eg Réunion is officially a department of France, but it looked weird in the app to tap an island in the middle of the ocean and be told it's a European country.

Yes, and Réunion also has its own international dialing code, so nobody can agree. The current maps don't show South Sudan as a separate country, by the way...

Did you consider alternative map-colouring schemes? Obviously you would only need four colours, though it's not trivial... but I think a simple recursive algorithm with backtracking operating on a graph of adjacent countries would work, and would be quite fun to implement!

Or you could probably give it five colours, and you wouldn't need the backtracking, I suspect. ;)

It is quite interesting indeed. But actually from efficiency perspective better to just assign colours and save them into the dataset... which is what I do. Painted manually therefore.

Yes, this is the easier, but less fun solution!
