I believe the photo is reoriented South-upwards. The part of the city in the very centre, between two branches of the river, is now Die Museumsinsel. My office should be just outside the northern (bottom) walls.
Yes, I vaguely remember when I was making it that I was completely failing to work out the scale and alignment until I realised it was upside down! I don't know if it was a German convention to have south top-oriented. (I also don't remember the date of the overlay map...)
