No conspiracy theories here! I'm good friends with everyone on the programme committee, so I think there was genuinely just too much contention for talks. :)

the second tweet, apparently deleted, seemed to indirectly propose a conspiracy by the scaladays committee. i’m not sure i can give a compelling distinction though: one person’s indirectness is direct to other listeners

we may have different definitions. it seemed a bit indirect to me, maybe that’s a better descriptor. the tweet itself is deleted, so we could kindly think it was a mistake to have written, or unkindly think its deletion is merely damage control

This year it was really hard to choose - we got a larger number of talk proposals (239 overall), and we have fewer slots than last year, at least in the US. So a lot of deserving talks did not make it.
-
Why are there fewer slots in the US? Are we down-scaling the US conference size?
