Just logged into Bintray for the first time in ages and it's almost as baffling as Sonatype. Scala really needs its own central repo without all the bullshit. This is all so ridiculously complicated.

I don't understand what's so bad about Sonatype. Every circe release involves 100+ artifacts, I do the Sonatype parts manually, and the whole thing (almost) never breaks and never takes more than 30 minutes, with <5 requiring actual attention.

Sure, the initial setup is a pain, but at least as far as Sonatype is concerned it never has to change once you've done it.

It's the initial nonsense and all the sbt fuckery that bothers me. It's very very hard to set up and verify. I was doing it wrong for years. May still be.

And automatic publishing, oh my god. It's so close to impossible I'm amazed anyone has ever done it.

I did it once, believe it or not. Just once.

I think the reason it didn't happen more times was that something broke, and I couldn't work out what, so I just got someone to fix my build for me. Of course, everyone has their own style of sbt build, so a fix is never just a tweak.
