tbh I think this attitude (which on the face of it is perfectly admirable) is a big part of the reason the Scala community is such a shitshow.
FWIW, I have to disagree that the Scala community is a shitshow. It has many wonderful people, and in the context of wider society in 2018, I find the Scala community, in general, much more considerate and aligned in their thinking than many other communities.

I have many friends there, but while volunteering on a job that no one else wanted I did see a different, ugly side to the way people behave. It was a disappointment and turned me off to the community a bit. It can be great, but we must recognize it can be bad too.

Also, as usual twitter demonstrates its non-suitability for any sort of subtle discourse in 288 characters... the above was about my experiences volunteering for SIP/SLIP which deteriorated rather a lot towards the end.
